Where did ‘Taco’ come from?

The name ‘taco’ is actually quite new, this delicious shell originated in the 18th century from the Mexican silver miners.

Gunpowder was wrapped in a paper like a “taquito” and inserted into rocks before detonation in the mines.

During this time, tacos were known as the food of the working class, which included miners. This resulted in their portable street food being called “tacos de minero“, which translates to “miner’s tacos”.

Some Taco facts!

The biggest taco ever made was on November 20th, 2011 in Queretaro, Mexico. It was 246 feet long and was made with carnitas as the filling!

Did you know that there is also a national day to celebrate tacos? National Taco day is October 4th. That’s not to say you should wait until October 4th to eat Taco’s though!
