I live a little bit too close to a McDonalds. It can be a bit of a problem, when I was a vegetarian, I quite enjoyed a Vegetable deluxe burger. That drive thru is far too tempting! Before I became a vegetarian, I thought nothing of picking up a cheeseburger on a fairly regular basis. But actually, after looking into the nutritional information, not being a vegetarian may actually have been beneficial for my waist line as far as my McDonalds habit goes.
I am not going to pretend that I am an angel and never slip into old habits. Now that I am making a conscious effort to eat healthier, I thought it was time to create a recipe which could replace some of those trips and be on plan.
McDonalds vs McFakeaway
Of course it is a bit more effort than a drive thru but it is cheaper and actually only takes around 20 minutes to make.
I often get asked about things such as calories or amounts of saturated fat. If this is the case for you, here is the breakdown.
The Vegetable Deluxe burger comes in at 380 calories while the Cheeseburger is just 301. However, my burger in a bowl recipe has 382 calories in it so it’s pretty much the same, but you know exactly what’s in it!
When it comes to saturated fat, the Vegetable Deluxe actually outperforms the Cheeseburger. With 6g of saturated fat, those concerned about their heart health should think about switching to the Vegetable deluxe. That one only has 1.4grams. Or better still, my burger in a bowl recipe has about 1g for the whole portion.
For people who love nutritional information, you may also be interested to know that my burger in a bowl recipe has around 14g of protein and about 19g of carbohydrates. The Vegetable Deluxe has 9g of protein and 52g of carbohydrates. The Cheeseburger has 16g of protein and 31g of carbohydrates.
I have calculated the nutritional information of my burger in a bowl recipe by inputting all of the items from the recipe into MyFitnessPal and all values are correct to the best of my knowledge.
