Loaded fries is a great recipe to make as a snack if you have friends over and want something to share while watching a film. You could replace the fries with nachos if you wanted, just double check the calorific value and adapt!
Toppings
It would be very easy to load up the chips with things that are high calorie, but you can just as easily create delicious toppings which keeping calories loq. For this recipe, I have gone with Quorn mince and mixed taco beans. The final ingredient that you could not have loaded fries without is of course the cheese.
Again, this could be a place where you load up on calories but using a reduced fat cheese, you can avoid that. I personally prefer to use the Dairylea triangles as you get more cheese!
There is also a calorie benefit of using Dairylea over cheddar. If we were comparing 75g of each, it’s 165 calories for the Dairylea and around 300 calories for the cheddar (depending on the brand). By eating Dairylea, you are also saving on saturated fat with 5 triangles containing around 7.5g and the equivalent amount of cheddar containing around 15.5g (more than double).
Another topping I like to try is to add peppers and spring onion! For the above I simply added 40g mixed peppers and chopped a spring onion on top!
