Jammie Baked Oats

I just love baked oats. They are one of my favourite ‘go to’ breakfasts when I fancy something that is a little more filling. Strawberry is also my favourite flavour of jam. These Jammie baked oats are great either warm or cold, so can be eaten on the go, or at home!

Jammie dodger baked oats

Jammie Dodgers are one of many biscuits that are nostalgic to me. I remember when I was growing up having them in my packed lunch at school nearly every day (thanks mum!).

I have however, wondered where the name ‘Jammie Dodger’ came from, as it doesn’t really describe the biscuit too much, other than the jam part!

When researching this, I learnt that the Jammie Dodger was in fact named after Rodger the Dodger who featured in Beano!

The Jammie Dodger was first created in Wales in the factory of Burton Biscuit Company in the 1960’s. Since then, the biscuits have been modified and have been released in several different flavours.

Jammie Dodgers are very popular and they are the favourite snack of the singer Labrinth and also Dr Who! We have the 11th doctor (Matt Smith), to thank for that! The biscuit was mentioned in the 2010 episode ‘Victory of the Daleks’. The Doctor has also used a packet of Jammie Dodgers to settle the dispute between the Dead Rabbit Gang and the Pug Ugly gang. Who knew that a packet of Jammie Dodgers could prevent the world from ending!

Skinny food co jam

Jams

You might ask why I would bother spending time ordering jam online when I can get in in the supermarket. The jam that I use for this is from the Skinny Food Co. and having spent some time researching just how much difference there is in this to the one you get from the supermarket shelf, I wouldn’t buy it anywhere else.

In 100g of Tesco strawberry jam, you would be consuming 248 calories whereas the Skinny Food Co jam is only 35 calories per 100g.

In regards to carbs and sugars, Skinny Food Co. once again trumps supermarket brands. Tesco jam has 61g of carbs, of which 45.9g are sugars per 100g. The Skinny Food Co jam has 24.5g carbohydrates of which 10g are sugars.

The jars from Skinny Food Co. last quite a long time for me as I only really eat a teaspoon for breakfast every so often. To me, this also makes it worthwhile as although ordering online can be a little inconvenient with regards to delivery times, the benefits of having a lower sugar jam lasting a long time outweigh having a higher sugar jam lasting the same amount of time.
